1st April 1969: Sam leaps into what appears to be the body of a male transvestite… actually an undercover detective named Jake Rawlings, currently in drag for a case. After surviving a shootout between two criminals and his partner, Sergeant Robert Skaggs, Sam returns to the precinct, where he meets a somewhat jittery Al. Sam learns that his mission is to prevent a young woman named Beth from making a life-changing mistake: Beth’s husband is a naval pilot declared missing in action in Vietnam; however, she is unaware that he is still alive, held prisoner by the Viet Cong. Al tells Sam that he must do everything he can to stop Beth from falling for suave lawyer Dirk Simon; however, he leaves out one important fact: Beth’s surname is Calavicci – she is Al’s wife…
